I know summer is “technically” over, but I’m still so stoked to share this San Onofre Beach Engagement! On a sunny California afternoon, I met Heather and Trish for drinks at their home in San Clemente before heading out to San Onofre beach for a relaxing engagement session. One week before, we were chatting it up on the phone about their quintessential Californian wedding that’s happening next year (it’s gonna be freaking beautiful, you guys), but more importantly, how they came to meet and fall in love. What stood out to me the most was their mutual love for the water, surfing, and how they came to fall in love. Heather recounted the story of when she knew Trish was “the one,” and I’m totally not going to be able to recount this as eloquently as she did over the phone, but I’ll try.
Heather and Trish were out on a surfing date, when Heather realized that this woman encompassed everything she had ever dreamt of and more. This was a person she could share not only a life, but a lifestyle with. Out on the water, there was a clarity of how much love they both shared for each other (and the water) and how they could continue life like this together forever. And I am telling you, Heather said it so eloquently over the phone that I was melting and squealing with excitement for their love. It was then I told them YOU HAVE TO SURF AT YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION!!!
When we made it to San Onofre, we pulled up next to this badass car and simultaneously thought “how cool would it be to use that as a prop.” Well, I went to go scout while Trish and Heather chatted it up with the owner of this Dodge and she was totally down to let us borrow it! We call that the stars aligning in the universe. After a few shots with “Shellyodge,” we wandering through the mini bamboo forests, and then geared up for the water. Though the waves weren’t entirely the best for surfing, Heather and Trish took out their boards into the water for sunset and ended the night cuddling by the bonfire after sunset.
