My first wedding of 2019 was at Millwick Los Angeles. If you were driving the streets of downtown LA, you’d never know it was there. Tucked behind an iron fence is a cozy, eclectic, industrial-meets-jungle open-air space. Joanne had her high school friend, Lillian, who is also a talented planner + designer, bring together a stunning jewel-toned wedding ceremony and reception.
One of my FAVORITE pieces from their wedding was actually the neon sign that said, “You are my sun, my moon and all of my stars.” Here’s a wedding tip: BUY THINGS YOU CAN DECORATE YOUR HOUSE WITH LATER! Genius.
Everything was going smoothly that day — even the sky was giving us a break from the rain. That is until 30 minutes before the outdoor ceremony was supposed to begin. Last minute, with the help of guests and all vendors, we managed to bring all the seating indoors and have a very cozy, dry ceremony right on time. Phhhhew. And it was gorgeous.
After the very emotional ceremony, with a few odes to both their dads (may they rest in peace) and outpouring words of love, we decided to embrace the rain and run around the streets of downtown. It’s easy to get stressed when the weather isn’t “on your side” but it’s much easier to go with the flow, embrace whatever the universe is throwing at you and focus on the positive: YOU JUST GOT MARRIED! Which is exactly what Jo + Brent did <3 My heart sends you guys so much love!
Side note: since I’m behind on blogging, I also shared their engagement sesh today 🙂 Getting to pull them out of their shells to encounter the emotion they feel around each other (think giddy, excited, shy, loving) is indescribable. We had a dope time running around new parts of Joshua Tree, watching the craziest golden sunset and trying not to get hit by cars passing by. If you missed their engagement session, definitely check that out here.
