After an early morning drive from Southern California to Los Alamos, we arrived at this quaint vintage hotel in the middle of what looked like a scene from West World. The 1880 Union Hotel is one of those places you walk into and instantly feel how much life has been held inside. Old material items like a dial phone, record player and grand piano decorated this high ceiling victorian mansion. Charming was an understatement when describing the place where Meredith and Eric wed.
Getting to shoot here was incredible, but crying all day and night while watching Meredith and Eric swoon over each other was the icing on the cake. All morning, Merry was a tad bit anxious, but the moment she saw Eric at their first look, all of that weight left her. He said three simple words, that I’m sure is a staple statement in their relationship, “hey, boo boo” followed by a million compliments and giddiness from both sides. I was trying to keep my composure behind the lens, but they are so damn sweet that I couldn’t hold it in – we were all crying. During their speeches, we found out that Eric grew smitten over Merry when they met at a bar – he was a bartender and she was the cute girl who came in. In that moment, he knew. They have traveled, moved from Canada to California to pursue their creative dreams, and built a seriously beautiful life together. Their knack for knowing how to have a good time (cue the endless dancing to the point where Eric ripped his custom suit from sliding on the dance floor), while bringing their families together, warmed my heart.
