KIMIKO + KAI
A Sunday Kind of Love
Before I met Kimiko + Kai over wine to hear their love story, I knew I was going to love them… it was in the emails that I found Kimiko is – you could say- my spirit animal in human form. From the moment we met, Kai made me feel so welcome into their lives and beautiful love story. Kimiko had mentioned she felt her mom, who had recently passed, had brought Kai into her life at the right moment, on Mother’s Day no less. Both saw each other from afar while hanging out on vacation with friends in Vegas and called dibs on each other (hehe) – you could say it was magnetism, love at first sight, and as Kimiko would say, her mom picking out her future husband. Four months later, they were all moved in together, inseparable and madly in love.
Fast forward to the proposal, in Kimiko’s words: “Kai is a master of romance – he planned a date day of 4 different dates. Date 1 – mani/pedis, Date 2 – proposing to me at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park, Date 3 – rushed me to our surprise engagement party with 20 of our closest friends at Kettner Exchange and Date 4 – celebrating with everyone at our house and popping in a DVD documenting how he made my engagement ring. It was an amazing day.”
When I asked them both to share their favorite thing to do together, they said they LOVE hanging out with each other at home, in their most comfy clothes, being their rawest selves with a bottle of wine, good conversation and something fun to watch. YASSSSS.
And so, their cozy, raw, Sunday Kind of Love engagement session was born out of Kai’s favorite song by Etta James and the realness of their relationship.
It warms my heart to know we’ll be spending a couple of days adventuring through Portland, OR next year for their intimate wedding! So much love to the both of you!
