KARLY + SCOT
11 Years, 4 kids, and lots of laughs later. K + S, you make 11 years of marriage look soooo good! Thanks for letting me drive you through my favorite place, Joshua Tree, and for not freaking out when I got a jumping teddy bear cactus stuck in my ankle. Your grace and kindness is everything <3!
When I get to meet people who have been committed to each other for so long, I have to know more about what makes them work. While all marriages look and feel different, it’s so great to get advice from those who have been there, done that, and are still making it through with this much love and laughter.
And so, I learned, their favorite memories together are those little moments: driving in the car, silly inside jokes all day, talks in the kitchen before the kids get on the bus for school. Truly, the realest, rawest moments where they genuinely enjoy being around each other. Nothing fancy, just love. Karly shared, “Being married for 11 years many would think there would be lows and highs for us… but truly and without smugness… marriage has been kind of easy for us. Being married to Scot is probably the easiest thing I’ve ever done in my life.”
Then I asked, what’s the best advice you could give to the newly engaged + married couples?
Karly – “Do not keep score. A marriage isn’t an equal partnership that our society wants it to be. There are times when you will be required to give more/do more/be more than your partner. That is ok. Do not keep score… serve one another joyfully, always be grateful for the sacrifices of your spouse. Laugh so much… even when you have 4 kids and you have ‘lost the ship’ try to find humor in those moments.”
Scot – “Don’t do tit-for-tat crap & never take each other for granted.”
Boom.
And that, my friends, is how you end up as joyful and full of so much love for one another after 11 years of marriage. So happy to have met you two. Congratulations on your love, Karly + Scot!
