An Intimate In-Home Engagement Session Pt. I [Meghan + Nick]

From the moment I spoke with them over the phone, it was evident the love these two have is strong, intimate, and everlasting. They met in the hallways of their high school, where they quickly fell in love. They spent some time a part when Meghan left to LA for school, but they reconnected two years ago and decided to commit to forever when Nick spontaneously proposed to Meghan, before a friends wedding. If my time with them has taught me anything, it’s that soul mates really do exist.

Since I have a hard time choosing favorites–let’s be real, they’re all my favorites–I had to split their engagement into two sections!!! Meghan and Nick invited me into their cozy home in the hills of Santa Barbara, Ca, told me short stories of the items they hold dearly, had a couple shots of Jameson with me and showed me just how much they adore each other. You guys, the chemistry here IS. SO. GOOD. Just see for yourself.

Meghan and Nick both have a ton of meaningful trinkets gracing their home. Many of the items pay homage to their Wiccan religion, their experiences and family. Meghan told me that various animal items hold meaning to her, but for some reason, antlers are one of those items that are gifted to her often.

She is also really attracted to shark eggs (bottom left) which made me feel less weird about having sheep and mouse brains in jars at my home, haha! The sea-green jars below are vintage jars that Nick has collected from digging in old wells (for work). He noted that back in the day, people used to throw their trash down wells… but now that a lot of the wells have to be removed for new construction, he has enjoyed collecting the vintage glass – the only remaining “trash” that is in tact and really freaking cool. They also have blessed holy water from the Mission Santa Barbara that has been passed down for generations in their family.

AND THIS IS HICKSMAN! I lovelovelove dogs and he was just the sweetest little babe.

This beautiful piece belonged to Meghan’s grandfather. He carried the little guy two miles down a mountain and taxidermied him, himself. Meghan notes that she feels such a positive presence with his spirit there!
